How Does it Work?
In three simple steps you could be on your way to enjoying Medallion Status.
1. Determine if you are eligible
You are eligible to participate in our Status Match Challenge if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
- You have not received a Status Match or complimentary Medallion Status in the past three years, unless the complimentary Medallion Status was through your Million Miler Status
- You currently have elite status with a qualifying airline that was earned through that airline’s published requirements (complimentary status or status earned through a promotion does not qualify)
- You are able to present both 1) a valid, current elite physical or digital membership card or credential with your name on it and 2) a statement showing your earned elite status with an airline and the corresponding activity with that airline that made you achieve that status, with your name on it. For both of these materials, you may upload a photograph, screenshot of your app or computer screen, or other file format as long as it clearly shows the required information, your elite status level, and your name.
Unfortunately, if you do not meet the above requirements, you are not eligible for our Status Match Challenge.
2. Submit your request
If you met all the criteria listed above, submit your request to be enrolled in the Status Match Challenge.
Make sure that you’re ready to begin the challenge before you submit your request as your three-month complimentary Status period will begin within 24 hours after you receive your email confirmation.

3. Enjoy Medallion Status
Complimentary Status for 3 months
Once your request is approved, you will be automatically enrolled in the challenge and matched to Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status based on your current elite status with another airline. Your complimentary Status Match will last for 3 months beginning within 24 hours after you receive your confirmation email. If your request is not approved, you’ll receive an email notifying you of Delta’s decision.
Use the Status Comparison chart to see what Medallion Tier you qualify for.
*Requests are typically reviewed within 5 business days, but please allow up to 2 weeks.
Extend your Status
Enjoying your complimentary Medallion Status? Extend it by earning the required amount of Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) during the 3 month complimentary period and, for U.S.-based Members only, earning the required amount of Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) during the 3 month complimentary period or qualifying for the MQD Waiver*.

Frequently Asked Questions
What flights can I earn MQMs, MQSs or MQDs on for this challenge?
MQMs, MQSs and MQDs earned on Delta- and Delta Connection-operated flights will count towards this challenge. MQMs, MQSs and MQDs may also be earned on partner airline flights that are eligible to earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs. Visit Airline Partners to learn more about what flights qualify.
What is the MQD Waiver?
The MQDs requirement will be waived you make $25,000 or more in eligible purchases during the calendar year by the end of your 3 month trial with your eligible Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express. For full details regarding earning the MQD Waiver for the Status Match Challenge, please visit the additional details & terms section at the end of this page.
I have the highest status with my other airline. Why wasn’t I matched to Diamond Medallion Status?
The Medallion Status Match is only offered for Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion Tiers.
If I want to extend my Status by meeting the requirements, can I earn higher than the Medallion Tier I was matched to (for example, I was matched to Gold but I want to extend it as Platinum)?
You may only extend the same or lower Medallion Tier as the Tier you were originally matched to. For example, if you are matched to Gold Medallion Status, you will not be able to earn Platinum Medallion Status through this offer. However, if you fall short of meeting the Gold requirements during the 3 months but meet the Silver requirements you can enjoy extended Silver Status based on the dates listed.
I am in the Platinum Challenge. Will I receive physical credentials?
Physical credentials will not be issued during the 3 month complimentary Status period. You can access your Membership Card through the Fly Delta app.
Why can’t I choose my Choice Benefits as a Platinum Medallion Member in this challenge?
Members who are matched to Platinum Medallion Status will not be eligible for Choice Benefits unless the requirements to extend Platinum Medallion Status are met.
Offer valid for travel completed within 3 months from time of account upgrade and will not include flights taken prior to enrollment. Participation does not guarantee Medallion Status. Promotional or temporary elite status on other airlines will not be eligible for this promotion. Matched Status will expire after 3 months, unless that level or a higher level of Medallion Status is awarded prior to that date. Medallion Status must be earned in subsequent years by traveling the required amount of MQMs or MQSs and spending the required MQDs (U.S.-based members only) or earning the MQD Waiver. Only MQMs, MQSs and MQDs earned through travel on Delta, Delta Connection, and SkyMiles Partner Airlines will count towards the challenge. MQMs/MQSs/MQDs earned through other sources, including but not limited to SkyMiles Credit Cards, do not count towards the challenge. Visit Partner Airlines to learn more about what flights qualify. Travel on Award Tickets does not qualify for this offer.
*The MQDs requirement will be waived if you achieve the MQD Waiver. The MQD Waiver can be earned for Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status for the Status Match Challenge if you make $25,000 or more in eligible purchases with your eligible Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express. The timing for achieving the MQD Waiver for this challenge is as follows:
If your 3-month challenge period begins and ends in the same calendar year (for example, begins on 8/1/19 and ends on 11/1/19), you must achieve the MQD Waiver between January 1 of that calendar year and the end of your challenge period. In this example, you would have from 1/1/19 through 11/1/19 to achieve the MQD Waiver.
If your 3-month challenge period falls between two calendar years (for example, begins on 11/1/19 and ends on 2/1/20), you can reach the MQD Waiver through either of the following two options:
- Option 1: the MQD Waiver will apply if you earn it at any time during the first calendar year. In this example, you would have from 1/1/19 through 12/31/19 to achieve the MQD Waiver
- Option 2: the MQD Waiver will apply if you earn it between the beginning of the second calendar year and the end of your challenge period. In this example, you would have from 1/1/20 through 2/1/20 to achieve the MQD Waiver.
Meeting either of the two options listed waives the MQD requirement for this challenge. You cannot combine your MQD Waiver spend between the two years. Remember, your MQD Waiver spend resets on January 1 each calendar year, and is not combined with any of your MQD Waiver spend from the previous year.
