How to Use Plan It


Split up the cost of your trip into monthly installments with a fixed monthly fee using your eligible American Express Card.

Follow the steps below to use Plan It for your upcoming travel:

  1. Use your eligible American Express Card to pay - for a faster checkout experience, make sure you are logged in to your SkyMiles account and that you have stored your American Express Card
  2. Choose to pay over 3, 6 or 12 months during checkout on delta.com and please note that plan durations offered may differ based on creditworthiness
  3. Track the progress of your plan through your American Express account

Your plan purchase will typically show on your American Express account within 48 hours though it may take up to 5 business days to reflect on your account. For more details visit americanexpress.com/planit.

All Delta flight purchases that are $100 or more may be eligible for Plan It at checkout on delta.com. Plan It is not available after initial flight purchase for other purchases or upgrades such as post purchase seat upgrades. You’ll pay a fixed monthly plan fee for the duration of your plan that will be disclosed upfront. You can find more details on plan fees at americanexpress.com/planit.
The Plan It feature is not available for post-ticketing purchases on delta.com. Plan It is only available at checkout for ticket purchases. However, customers may choose to plan their purchase through their American Express account after the transaction has posted.
You do not need a Delta American Express Card to use Plan It, but you do have to have an eligible American Express U.S. Personal Card. Please visit our Delta SkyMiles American Express Card page to discover all the benefits and apply today.

You can cancel your flight at any time, however, this will not result in the cancellation of your payment plan. If you receive a refund/credit for a purchase placed into a plan, you can request that the amount be applied to your plan balance. Once you see the credit on your account, please call the number on the back of your card to speak with a Plan It Specialist to have the amount applied to the plan balance.

With our 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation, you have up to 24 hours after booking to cancel your flight for any reason and receive a full refund with no fees. If you selected Plan It at checkout and need to cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking and the charge was never billed to your American Express account, the plan will not be created. You will only see an active plan when the transaction posts to your account.

Delta Gift Cards and eCredits can be combined with Plan It. However, after applying your available eCredit or Delta Gift Card, the total remaining balance applied to your eligible American Express U.S. Personal Card must be at least $100 for Plan It to be available.

At checkout, you will be offered 1–3 plan duration options. The plan duration options can vary based on a variety of factors such as the purchase amount, your Account history, and your creditworthiness. If you are enrolled in an intro or promotional APR, you may see limited plan duration options during the intro or promotional period when you use Plan It on your Account. If you create a plan during an introductory or promotional APR period, your plan fee will be based on the introductory or promotional APR as long as the plan is created before 11:59pm MST on the last day of the introductory or promotional period. After a plan is paid in full, it will be removed from your Account in the next billing period.

Your ability to use Plan It at checkout will be based on a variety of factors such as your creditworthiness, and your Credit Limit or Pay Over Time Limit, as applicable.
